I met up with these three at Joan’s Family Farm this past weekend. You might remember the farm from this post, click here for family picture FAIL post. Well I had to go back and avenge myself and the ability for me to take family pictures at the farm. I think we succeeded this time. Only thing is that I didn’t get any of my three together again. Maybe I am doomed. haha.

Anyway, this gorgeous family were awesome. We fed cows, we got bit by misquotes, we watched a donkey run around after escaping, and we picked pumpkins. These are the best sessions! I love when I can just hang out with a family for a couple of hours and capture the moments of them just being together. The best times of being a family are just being together and laughing and playing. It is a beautiful thing to watch, experience, and photograph.

So thanks to the M. Family for meeting me at the farm. It was fun and I hope you love the memories we captured!

I had the awesome opportunity to second shoot for my second shooter this past weekend. It was so much fun to have the chance to step back and be more creative with my angles and my compositions. But it was also a blast to be a part of Heather and Efrain day.

We started out in one of the most gorgeous churches I have ever been in, Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Petaluma. The moment I walked into the church I was overcome with reverence and excitement for the covenant that they were making that day.

Heather and Efrain, I just met you on Saturday, but I could tell from our short time together that you two are a team. The eight years of preparation that got you to this point was just the beginning of a wonderful journey that will last your whole lives. If you can remember even half of the incredibly wise words Father Gary shared with you, you will be off to an incredible start.

Many blessings to the two of you!! Have a great time in Jamacia!!!

I don’t think photographers are SUPPOSED to tell you when they fail. But in this instance it is too funny not to share.

I took my kids to the pumpkin farm a few weeks back to get some pictures for our Christmas cards. I picked out outfits that coordinated but were not too matchy-matchy so that they looked cute but not “too put together.” I found a good spot with pumpkins and great light. And then I sat down in front of them and attempted to get them to all look at me.

I failed.

You think you are the only one who has a hard time getting your kids to take good pictures for you. No, us photographers have the same issues. I don’t know maybe this blog entry will make me relate-able, haha. Maybe you are the type that loves the perfectly imperfect family photo (and if you do I am your girl! LOL!). Or maybe this posting will just help you to realize that it is hard work to get your kids to look good in photos.

Stay tuned, I will be attempting round two at the pumpkin patch this weekend. Hopefully in the same cute outfits, but hopefully this time they will all look at me at the same time.

I have known Abby since we were in 5th grade. She has known me since we were in 7th. It is a long story. HAHA. She has been one of the greatest friends of my lifetime. Knowing someone for 20 years is a long time. I didn’t get a chance to give a speech at your wedding because I was busy taking pictures of the speeches. But lets call the next paragraph the speech I would have given if I had chosen to be a bridesmaid instead of the photographer. Plus I don’t think I could have gotten through this without balling like a little baby anyways.

It had been said a few times during the day that people were uncertain that this day would ever come, but I had no doubts. I knew that there would be a day when one of the most incredible people I have ever known would choose to join lives and hearts with the love of her life. I knew that someday your heart open itself to the love that it longed for. I also knew that it would have to be one impossibly incredible man, and that is who you found. Now one might ask, “how exactly did you know that for certain Kristy?” And my answer would be simply, “I know Abby!”

I know that she has impossibly high standards both for herself and for the people that she loves. But the grace that she possesses balances it out perfectly. I know that she loves deeper than the ocean and that this love is a gift from God. I know that she has a calling that is stronger than crazy glue and the perfect amount of faith that keeps her right in the palm of the hand of the Father. I know that she speaks truth. I know that she lives truth. And I know that she believes truth. I know that the first time I saw Will and her together I saw her more crazy in love than I could have imagined. And I know that will is the ying to her yang. He is the blue to her red in purple. And he is her happy ending.

It is always a beautiful thing when two become one. But this wedding was an extra special one for me. We had prayed for this day since we were kids. Abby I am so proud of you for keeping your eye on the prize. Thank you both for letting me be a part of your special, incredible day. I can only hope that the images I captured can display even half of the awesomeness that was your day.

Have fun in Mexico. I will see you guys when you get back.

Abby and Will decided to do a “first look” and I have to say it was so great to get to orchestrate a private moment for the two of them to see each other for the first time on their day. So sweet!

I bet all you out there in the blogersphere are wondering if I shoot all of these wedding solo? I know that this question has been burning in your minds for weeks now. And I know that each one of you has been planing a well written email to ask me if I have assistants or if I go it alone. Well my dear internet-friends, I do indeed have assistants, specifically two of the coolest assistants around (I am married to one of them, haha). Shannon and Max.

This is Shannon. Notice she is getting a very sweet shot of the bride and groom after they passed me during the recession. Shannon is always there to work it when my moment has passed. Rock on Shannon!

shannon

And this is Max. Notice he is quietly shooting to the side of where I was, telephoto lens on, looking for angles that I don’t see. That’s my hunny!!

max

Now I don’t want anyone who might shoot with me in the future or who has shot with me in the past to feel bad. I don’t play favoritism too much, but these two have been with me from the beginning (I know, so long, right?) and they inspire me, they hold me up when I get tired, they calm me down when things go crazy, and they park the car for me and carry my bags when I need them too. And for all of this they RAWK!

So Shan-shan and Maximus, thank you buds! I can’t wait to work with you both again. eeeeeeeeee!

The first time I met Gordon and Nichole I was impressed by their how down to earth in love with each other they were. As we spoke and they told of starting to date at the tail end of high school (think Grad Night, you can’t get any more tail end) and their journey to San Francisco for college together and the ups and downs of their early twenties they impressed me with a love that stood the test of 8 years already. As I was walking up to the ceremony site with the Gordon’s brother, the best man, he mentioned that in his heart these two have been married for a while already. The ceremony that took place yesterday only confirmed what everyone in attendance knew in their hearts. Gordon and Nichole are perfectly matched as husband and wife.

Throughout the day it was a joy to watch these two as the experienced the details that unfolded throughout their day. The Golf Links at Half Moon Bay was the perfect setting for the ceremony and the reception. But even more perfect was the gentle way that these two glided through their day with the certainty that this was right, this was perfect, and this is what they had been dreaming for much of their 8 years together.

Gordon and Nichole it was beyond magnificent to share your day with you and get to document your love story. Have a blast in Maui (I am so jealous!!) and I will be in touch soon.

For the second time this month my couple decided to do a “first look.” I loved it, they loved it and the best part, we got ALL of the formal portraits done before the ceremony. This left plenty of time for us to use the time after the ceremony to get amazing location shots around the Golf Links.

I think this little flower girl in training is going to give me a run for my money in about 20 years. I better be careful! (I can’t wait to see  shot she took though!)

This family is incredibly strong. When life gave them some sour lemons, they made some sweet lemonade. They have been displaced out of their home for a few months because of a fire. But you could not tell that from hanging around them at all. In the few short hours that we were playing and shooting and laughing together they showed me their extreme strength and courage in the middle of the trials.

Some would call it fortunate to have such a strong family through the rough patches but I believe that these five would call it blessed and I have to agree with them.

Thanks to you B. family for your willingness to try new things and your ease in front of the camera. You make love look easy!

Mallorie and John are MFEO (made for each other)! The simple way that they calm each other down. The tears that they denied were going to happen and then flowed so freely once they saw each other for the first time. The graceful way that they glided through their day even though it didn’t go off without a hitch. This is the first wedding that my husband was unable to assist me at and I have to say watching the love that Mallorie and John had for each other made me miss him and fall in love with him even more.

This wedding was a blast to photography. Mallorie and John assembled a top notch team of professionals for their day and I was thoroughly impressed by all the little diy details that were included!

Mallorie and John – MFEO -  it was a pleasure getting to be a part of your day and capture the memories of your wedding day. Have a great fantabulous time in Jamaica. I will be in touch soon!
