What a Crock: Personal Project

This pickling crock is a hand me down from my grandmother on my Mom’s side. She was an awesome lady and she pickled things too. Now I have never pickled anything but I had visions of squishing my newborn baby into this crock both to see if I could do it and to honor the legacy of my pickling Grandmother Elsie Southerland.

Grandma, I hope you are looking down from heaven smiling that your newest Great-Grandson can fit in the crock. I wish you were here to share this with us.

And now that I am crying (darn post-partum hormones) here are the pictures of my baby the pickle.

Notice the 6? Yeah it is some important marking on the crock but to me it is significant because Grady is both the 6th Grandchild on the Franks’ side of the family and he is the 6th member of our family.

Eleven Days: Personal Project

For the first time he didn’t cooperate! He had some issues on my first set up and we had to discard (well wash) the blanket I had planned to use. So we had to change courses and went for the cocoon so we could use a diaper for this mini-session. He was wide awake the [...]

For the first time he didn’t cooperate! He had some issues on my first set up and we had to discard (well wash) the blanket I had planned to use. So we had to change courses and went for the cocoon so we could use a diaper for this mini-session. He was wide awake the entire time. And while I love those sleepy images there is something completely intriguing about the eyes of a baby. You know, they say that babies can see angels. Well the weird thing is that all through church today his eyes were wide open and he was staring at the ceiling. Maybe there is something to that old wives tale!

Without further ado here is Baby Grady and just a couple of his big brother who decided he wanted some pictures taken too. And funny side story here I asked him if he wanted some pictures taken today and he immediately took his shirt off. I think I have ruined him for life. haha!

I love this hat because you can’t look at this picture without giggling inside, right? Isn’t he adorable?

blog3

I have had this hat since Sawyer was a little guy. I have never used it on a newborn yet, so excited to get to try it out!

blog7

And just a shot of his crazy post bath hair. I love it!

Finally, a pullback shot of how I set up these shots. Nothing too special but I think it is nice to see behind the scenes images every once in a while.

another day, another picture: personal project

August 27th, 2010

I have taken formal pictures of Grady just about every day since birth (I missed day one and yesterday though). Here is a quick storyboard of the little guy that is a combination of pictures that Max and I took of him. We love him (but we love all our boys too!)

5 days new: Personal Project

Grady is 5 days old. His skin is getting more smooth and his hair is already getting lighter. He is a full 7 pounds now and actually wakes up for part of the day. He is still a champion sleeper at night but makes sure that mommy and daddy do get up a few times every night to fill his tummy.

His brothers are enamored with him and they have all loved spending time holding him and can’t wait until he is old enough to rough house with them. Mommy can definitely wait until she has 4 guys running around though.

I got the chance to take advantage of our seasonably warm weather today (our Jetta told us it was 105 outside this afternoon!) and took him outside for some outdoor pictures. These are in my backyard and I am very excited to share these. This is the first time I have gotten to take a newborn outside for a photo session. I hope to do this some more.

Tomorrow we are going to try to get some of him and big brother, that will be quite the task!

Me, pregnant: Personal Project

August 16th, 2010

I didn’t get the chance to capture myself pregnant with my first son. I totally regretted it later on because the way you look and feel while pregnant is a great time to remember in the future. It is true, you totally forget what it feels like and how big you really got! So I waited until I was really pregnant looking (I have been carrying really small) and Max and I played.

I wanted to share these with you both as an announcement that I will be taking the next month off (kind of) and that the blog might be a little deserted for the next week or so. But then we will be back full force with some newborn pictures! I am so excited to meet our new little man and share him with the world.

Woodside Wedding Photographer: It was a yellow kind of a day!

I have been anxiously awaiting this amazing wedding for months. I had the pleasure of taking engagement pictures for Brent and Sam last November and then also did boudoir pictures of Sam a few months back. So the month leading up to this wedding have been a great time of excitement and anticipation. I didn’t know too many of the details of the wedding day before yesterday but I had seen on Facebook the ringbearer pillow that Samantha made for the ceremony and I knew even before seeing anything else that I was in for a photographers treat. The little accents of yellow and birds and vintag-ey inspired details were scattered through the day in a way that was subtle but extraordinary!

Brent and Samantha, thank you for trusting my team to capture your day. I know that you took a tiny chance on me (you know being 37 weeks pregnant and all, haha) and I can’t tell you how thrilled I am that I was your wedding photographer. Your love and devotion to each other is obvious. The incredible balance you bring to one another is inspiring. And the journey that is ahead of you is something to be excited about. Enjoy your honeymoon and the move down south. I can’t wait to see how you two grow in to wonderfully married people!

Here is a sneak peek of the awesome events of yesterday. Words can’t describe how beautiful this location is and really it was a yellow kind of a day!

Event Location: The Mountain Terrace
Flowers: Daisy By Design
DJ: Imagesource Entertainment
Ceremony Musicians: SF Conservatory
Cake: Not Just Cheesecakes
Officiant: Sealed with a Kiss
