Sisters! I have a sister and she rocks. I love sisters! I have all boys and think that brothers are pretty cool too, but there is something special about the bond between sisters. I got to experience that magic yesterday with these two beautiful girls. Seeing the joy of them laughing together and playing together was just about the coolest part of my month so far. And while each girl is gorgeous in her own right the true beauty I saw yesterday was their bond.

And it takes some pretty awesome parents to facilitate that happening. I was just doubly bless by seeing how this mom and dad helped foster the bond between the two. We met up at Crissy Field in San Francisco and by golly it was windy (you can probably tell from our images). I would like to think of them as whimsical and wispy but in reality it was just really windy! But it didn’t stop us. We rolled around in the grass and played in the sand until it was past the little one’s bed time. This family is full of troopers.

Thanks K. Family for hanging out with me yesterday. I really did have an incredible time getting to know you all a little better! Here is your sneak peek of our images.

A Lot Like Christmas… Clayton Family Photographer

December 8th, 2009

It snowed! In my lifetime I can not remember such an awesome dusting in the East Bay Area. I have lived in snowy places before and I truly believe snow to be magical. It snowed! In my lifetime I can not remember such an awesome dusting in the East Bay Area. I have lived in snowy places before and I truly believe snow to be magical. For a short period of time, while the snow is still white, everything looks pristine  and magnificent. There are some deep spiritual truths for me in snow. But beyond all that deep stuff, it is just F-U-N! So much fun that I am planing yet a third trip to see it later today.

But for now I have taken a few pictures of what I saw today. For many of you non Bay Area blog readers these sights may be very common place for you. Something that you stare at for months on end. Hopefully you can feel my joy for the magical white powder in these pictures and be reminded of the true magic that it is. For those who are not inundated with it for months at a time I hope you can see the beauty that is just so natural and dare I say magical.

So I am trying some new stuff. I have been loving the idea of just hanging out with a family and capturing some memories of them playing together, of them just being a family and doing things that families do. It is not as easy as it sounds (well maybe just for me, haha). I really had to become a fly on the wall (and the floor and the couch and pretty much all over their house, haha). I had been practicing on my own family for a while now and have decided to take it to the streets! I think we got some awesome story-telling “lifestyle” shots and then some modern portraiture mixed it with it. And, btw, this is what I love to do. So if you are thinking about getting some family portraits done, you should consider doing a story-telling session with me. Tons of fun!

Now on to this awesome family. These are some good friends of ours. I have been wanting to do this session for maybe a year now. And you can obviously see why, they are gorgeous and fun and happy and SO. IN. LOVE! It was a total joy to be around you A. family! You guys rock and I can’t wait to see some of these shots on your walls!

I met up with this awesome family at the Crown Memorial State Beach and Crab Cove Visitor Center and it was love at first site for me and this location. I love the beach and I can’t believe that there is one so close to me! And that is even more fortunate because the next closest one is in San Francisco, the forbidden city, since the bridge is closed!

I can’t believe how adorable this family is. Throughout the day there was a fun mix of English and German being spoken and with my very very rudimentary college German I was pretty much lost. Haha, I hope I didn’t bother them too much saying, “now what does that mean?” We got a nice mix of some beach shots and then we headed out to the rocks to get some variety. The day was pretty foggy as you can tell. But it made for a very wintry scene and I think that it worked pretty well.

So thank you S. family for hanging out with me yesterday. I had a great time! I will be in touch soon.

I met up with these three at Joan’s Family Farm this past weekend. You might remember the farm from this post, click here for family picture FAIL post. Well I had to go back and avenge myself and the ability for me to take family pictures at the farm. I think we succeeded this time. Only thing is that I didn’t get any of my three together again. Maybe I am doomed. haha.

Anyway, this gorgeous family were awesome. We fed cows, we got bit by misquotes, we watched a donkey run around after escaping, and we picked pumpkins. These are the best sessions! I love when I can just hang out with a family for a couple of hours and capture the moments of them just being together. The best times of being a family are just being together and laughing and playing. It is a beautiful thing to watch, experience, and photograph.

So thanks to the M. Family for meeting me at the farm. It was fun and I hope you love the memories we captured!

Family Pictures – FAIL! Livermore Family Photographer

I don’t think photographers are SUPPOSED to tell you when they fail. But in this instance it is too funny not to share. I took my kids to the pumpkin farm a few weeks back to get some pictures for our Christmas cards. I picked out outfits that coordinated but were not too matchy-matchy so [...]

I don’t think photographers are SUPPOSED to tell you when they fail. But in this instance it is too funny not to share.

I took my kids to the pumpkin farm a few weeks back to get some pictures for our Christmas cards. I picked out outfits that coordinated but were not too matchy-matchy so that they looked cute but not “too put together.” I found a good spot with pumpkins and great light. And then I sat down in front of them and attempted to get them to all look at me.

I failed.

You think you are the only one who has a hard time getting your kids to take good pictures for you. No, us photographers have the same issues. I don’t know maybe this blog entry will make me relate-able, haha. Maybe you are the type that loves the perfectly imperfect family photo (and if you do I am your girl! LOL!). Or maybe this posting will just help you to realize that it is hard work to get your kids to look good in photos.

Stay tuned, I will be attempting round two at the pumpkin patch this weekend. Hopefully in the same cute outfits, but hopefully this time they will all look at me at the same time.

Beyond Blessed: Antioch Family Photographer

October 8th, 2009

This family is incredibly strong. When life gave them some sour lemons, they made some sweet lemonade. They have been displaced out of their home for a few months because of a fire. But you could not tell that from hanging around them at all. In the few short hours that we were playing and shooting and laughing together they showed me their extreme strength and courage in the middle of the trials.

Some would call it fortunate to have such a strong family through the rough patches but I believe that these five would call it blessed and I have to agree with them.

Thanks to you B. family for your willingness to try new things and your ease in front of the camera. You make love look easy!

This family is too cute. From the moment I walked in the door I was surrounded by feelings of love and fun and family. Miss K. was your typical 2 and a half year old. Very much in love with Thomas the train and very eager to share her play world with me. I believe we shared some fake bread with fake butter but the butter might have actually been cheese, I couldn’t tell. And little Mr. E was just not a fan of the tummy time but surprised the heck out of me when he proved that he could sit up all on his own at 6 months. That is an amazing feat little man!

Thanks so much T. family for letting me come over and hang out for a while. It was a pleasure to get to know you a little more and get to take your pictures. And Mommy E. if you ever want to help me with a what to wear guide, you would rock it (you picked out some adorable outfits for the family, kudos to you for that!!).

Here is your sneak peek, I will be in touch soon!
