This momma is about to pop! She is so close to being done, we had to take a few breaks for contractions through the session, LOL! I would look up and she would be breathing and holding her belly. I was a little nervous, but she was awesome and we got some really creative images.

Thanks to the K. family for letting come into your world for a little while as you are expecting baby number 4! I can’t wait to meet him in a few weeks!!!

And here is your sneak peek:

This adorable couple is expecting their first baby in the next week and a half or so. I have to say that I was really excited to get to have a maternity session with them and I am equally excited to get to meet their new little surprise in the next few weeks.

Thanks so much to C and J for trekking out with me to the gorgeous field and for being game for my new green chair (can you believe that Max and I found this on the side of the road in Martinez? seriously!). You guys rock!

Enjoy your shots. Oh and your last few days of freedom. haha!

Exciting news! While other parts of the country are still buried under feet of snow and ice, it is a nice and sunny 70degrees here today. And so in honor of our lovely weather we are having a…

What an amazing coincidence. I went to high school with the daddy of these two amazing girls way back in the 90’s (LOL!) we graduated the same year, know the same people, but don’t remember each other. We went to a pretty big school, but still, how weird.

M. and I. called me the other day to take capture some memories of their newborn baby girl and their awesome toddler girl too! I was so excited! They are my first ever Google clients. Meaning they found me on google and called me up. It is just the coolest feeling.

I could tell from the images that were all around their home that they have an appreciation for beautiful photography and so I am excited to show them their images. A little nervous too… I hope you love them guys!

Here is your sneak peek C. family. I will be in touch soon! img_4

I know you have heard it said, and it could be considered a cliche, but the powerful words, “there is no day like today” rings so very true during this time of cutting back in the American economy.

I have thought about it a lot. Our family, like any other, is going through our priorities and reevaluating what we consider important enough to invest our money into. Everyday new challenges are presented to us and we carefully consider how we will handle them in light of our own financial situations. So I know what it means when clients and friends say that they are trying to be wise when making decisions about photography.

However there is something unique about photography that is not true about a lot of our other expenditures. A lot of the things that we buy will be around tomorrow and next week and next year for us to buy. That new flat screen television will still be at Best Buy (given that Best Buy is still in business, lol!) next year. In fact if you wait you may even get a better model. And that new couch and loveseat set will still be at the furniture store next year or you may find one that you like even better for a better deal later this year.

But your children, and family will not be the same later this year. Your newborn baby will not be as small as he or she was the first 10 days of his or her life ever again. Your one or two year old will not be a toddler forever. You will not be pregnant 9 months from now with the child you are now carrying (THANK GOD, right?). And your wedding day is a once in a lifetime event. The exact make up of your family as it is today will never be the same. Kids grow, situations change, dad’s lose their hair… like it is said, there is no day like today.

So here is my point. When you are reevaluating your budget and choosing your priorities, please do not under estimate the value of having the moments of your life captured by a professional photographer. Your baby girl’s smile is priceless, get a tangible memory of that up on your wall as art. Your family is beautiful. And as many of our possessions are becoming less of a priority in this economic time, the value of family increases. Today is the day to turn your memories in to art.

And here is the deal. If you mention this blog post to me in an email and then you go on to book a full session with me before June 30, 2009, you will receive a $50 print credit for making your family’s memories a priority during these tough times. It is my challenge to you to make sure and treasure the moments of your life, and to let me be a part of capturing those moments.

And no blog post is complete without a pretty picture so here is another image from one of my recent newborn sessions. What a precious doll miss C. is!

I met up with some awesome photography friends yesterday and we all put our collective creative brains together and came up with some really awesome maternity shots for a fellow photography friend of ours.

6 minds are always better than one. And here is my share of the excitment. I love this chair and I HAVE to have one. If you have one to sell to me (cheeply please!) or trade (for some awesome pictures of you in it), or even give to me. I will forever be indebted to you. Email me!

On to the pretty pictures of the momma to be. Wait she already is a momma, to four, this is number 5, and she is 37 weeks pregnant. UN-frikkin-BELIEVABLE, right?!?

I had the pleasure of hanging out with Miss V. again. She is a frequent visitor to my lens. This is our third shoot together. The occassion today is that Miss V. is expecting the arrival of Miss C. any day now (ok really any week now) but we wanted to get some shots of mommy before the new little one arrives. I bet you will be seeing more of Miss V. in the coming weeks. lol.

Here is the sneak peek from our hang out time today. Thanks so much for filling your “nothing going on today” day with our photo shoot. I think we got some awesome shots!

K. is a good friend of mine. In fact, her and her husband are some of my husband and my favorite people to hang out with. They are both the life of the party. So when she asked me if I would do some belly pictures for her, I jumped on the chance to capture these images.

We had a relaxing day followed by some awesome hawaiian pizza and a few laughs. Thanks for the day guys. But most of all thanks for your friendship! I can’t wait to meet little miss M. when she arrives.

Here is your sneak peak. It is a little larger than the usual ones for a few reasons. a. you are georgeous b. I couldn’t pick a favorite and c. a new bigger blog, new bigger sneak peaks.

In my camera bag.

February 4, 2009

I have recently figured out that you can never have enough camera equipment. There is always something that I will want, or need, or just find too darn nifty to pass up. I have a wish list as long as the day, but for now I am content and my husband is content not to spend any more either….

So I thought I would share with all of you what I shoot with.

One word. Canon. I love it. It is user friendly, it has a full frame sensor for a not crazy price. And in the end, Canon’s make me happy. I am such a Canon nerd that when I am watching TV and I see a DSLR I have to know what they are shooting with. Is it a Canon, a Nikon, a Sony… what the heck is it? Take CSI for example, what kind of cameras do the investigators shoot with. I honestly don’t know. The bodies look like Canons, but they are very careful never to show the brand name, it eats me up inside. I have to know.

So here is my Canon bag of tricks. It is simple, but for now it gets the job done.

1. An original 5d. I LOVE this baby. I would sleep with it but my dear husband really won’t let me. I seriously don’t know how I lived without it. Truly amazing camera.

2. A Canon 50mm f/1.4. Great lens. I loved it even more before I had a 5d and I had a cropped sensor. It is a nice sharp, everyday, walk around lens. And it doesn’t have the wicked far minimum focus distance that the next lens has.

3. A Canon 85mm f/1.8. I really do adore this lens. I think that it creates the most beautiful bokeh and just makes people look beautiful and creamy. It is amazing.

4. A Canon 24-70mm f/2.8 L. This lens is possibly the best mid-range zoom lens that there is. It is a giant however, not as big as a 70-200mm f/2.8 L IS, which is a beast and is next on my shopping list.

So thanks for stopping by. Here is a picture of that which I love. I look at it and smile.

Just one more…

November 19, 2008

As I finished up editing my recent maternity session with this beautiful momma, I happened upon this one. I had discarded it for some reason upon my first time through the set. But then as I looked again I realized how beautiful the background was. And how it just framed her so perfectly. And then I saw how it almost looks like a watercolor.

This was only enhanced a little, and I can’t believe how cool that background is, can you?
