Little man has not been doing so great. Three fevers in one week, to accompanied by some stomach issues. He is been taken through the ringer right now. Poor little guy wanted to take a nap in mommy’s bed today and who and resist an adorable 2 year old being cute (especially one who doesn’t feel 100%). So if you think of us, pray that we will find some answers to why he is not feeling great please!

Beyond the irresistible request to take a nap in my bed, taking this shot of him was beyond irresistible to me. I love him.

“We go see big bird?” Sawyer asks just about every night. And the night where there is time and light left after dinner we all put on our walking shoes and head out the door. This isn’t just any stroll through the neighborhood, it is like a journey through the wilderness. I think so far on our walks we have seen peacocks (big birds), horses, cows, rabbits, German Shepherds, turkeys, frogs, and donkeys. And we don’t live in the country, lol! Really there is this awesome nature trail that runs along the canal by our house and tucked behind the creek there is a farm surrounded by urban sprawl. It is a journey into another time and place for us every night.

Night after night, as we would take our walks I would say to myself, “self, you really NEED to bring your camera out here one of these nights!” So I did. I followed as the 4 boys walked ahead a little and stopped and took pictures of all the things I had see, all the images I had created in my head on our nightly walks up to that point. This isn’t all of the images I got that night but a few of my favorites from our walk.

I hope you enjoy my tiny photo-documentation project.

Back in the day you might remember this thing called, “film.” You would buy rolls of it and if you were really old school you would hope that you loaded it correctly (the fancy cameras had an auto load feature, wow!).  Then you would take like 24 or 36 exposures (yes they were actually called that) and wait until you could get back to the store to drop it off and then wait again until it was developed so you could see your pictures.

Then the years go by and we got these fancy digital cameras with screens and live-view. And we all migrated quickly to digital-land. I mean, why not? For reals, there are some awesome qualities to digital photography. The instant gratification, the ability to shoot what-ever-the-heck-you-want-as-much-as-you-want and only keep the keepers. Digital is amazing.

But film is phenomenal. Film is beautiful. Film is classic. And my love affair with photography started with film. All those years ago in high school, film was it. Our old Pentax manual film SLR’s were rockin. I loved the creative control that I had with my film camera and the developing process.

Yesterday I pulled out the old trusty Canon TX and my 50mm 1.8 FD lens. I stopped by Target and got some film (yes, some stores do still sell film!!!). Wandered with Sawyer to a quaint little park and snapped some images. I took that roll to Costco (fancy, right?!?) and waiting an hour for them to process. Then I uploaded them from the disk to my computer and did a little photoshop magic on them. And there they are for you.

They are not masterpieces in the technical sense of the word, but I believe they are beautiful! I can’t wait to shoot more film. Actually I am in the market for a used film body that is a little bit more current that the trust TX (and one that will take all my fancy Canon glass that I have collected now). You will see more of my film adventures in the future.

It has now happened to me three times. I am running errands and going about my business and all of the sudden I hear, “oh I know that face!” And they are not talking about me? Nope, they are talking about the adorable boy with all that curly hair. He is famous! haha! No really, with a face like that and curls like that, I get why he is more easily recognized. I mean I am in a pony-tail, no make-up, just normal me and there he is with is adorable curls and happy smile and you just can’t help but notice that you “know” him. When it happened yesterday my friend mentioned, “well you plaster him all over the place” and, well, haha, I guess I do.

So if we are ever out and about and you see my little boy, please stop and say hi to me. Cause I know you might not recognize me but you will notice him apparently. LOL!

And here are some new pictures of the little guy. He asked me to take pictures with him yesterday and who can resist a 29 month old being that cute. And get this, he actually looked at me through the lens and I didn’t even have to bribe him with candy!!! WOW!

And when he got bored of me I turned to flowers. They always smile for you.

Today we took all the kids out shoe shopping and while it is momentous for all three of our boys to pick out new shoes this day was particularly special for our littlest. He has never really picked out his own shoes. Up to this point mommy and daddy have either gotten him shoes while out and about or we have been handed down a few pairs of gently worn kicks. Today was special though. He picked them out on his very own. Well okay, for the sake of full disclosure I did point them out to him, but from the moment he saw them, it was true love.

“Mommy, I wear,” he said to me. I couldn’t resist. I got down on the ground and proudly velcroed the black micro-suede “skate” shoes on his little size 8 toddler feet and I could feel the energy when he then said to me, “Mommy, I run?” “Yes, Sawyer, go ahead and run, love,” I said to him and off he went. And, well, not to get too mushy, I know that this is how life will be from her on out. I will help him with the getting ready part and when we are done he will run. Sure he always comes back (sometimes we have to chase him) but just the very act of running on his own is such a statement of his little individuality blooming. And I am so proud.

So, what else does a mommy who happens to also be a professional  photographer do to deal with the fact that her little boy is growing up. She takes a picture and then blogs about it. HAHA.

Here are the shoes. Call them a symbol, call them trendy, but my boy calls them “all mine!”

dcshoeswebPS. and keep an eye out for a very special blog post tomorrow. While I was away in Vegas (and what happened in Vegas will stay in Vegas because I forgot to take a single picture, LOL!) Max got to photograph a beautiful vow renewal ceremony in Morgan Hill that we will be sharing. So check back tomorrow.

Just a little glimpse into my world today. My office (”where all the magic happens”) is also my son’s play area. Very convenient simply for the fact that he can hang and play and we can chat while I am working. And really I can just kind of keep an eye on the happenings of his day. Oh, plus I can take breaks to play legos or play-doh every once in a while.

Well today, while doing some stuff on the computer I neglected him for a few minutes (shame, shame, right?!?) and turned around to see this:

Haha, I guess it could be worse. LOL!!

Tear… we cut my baby’s hair today. And he looks like such a big boy now. I never cease to amaze at him, he did incredibly well and looks like a different kid now. I can’t get over it. My sister is the hairdresser in the family and she kindly came over on her way home from work today to cut his hair for us. Thanks “antie necie” for being so patient and awesome with hi, he looks great.

Please excuse me as I share some of the images from today. They are not perfect (it was so dark I had to use my flash and some indoor light too) but they are sweet memories for us.

A before image, who lets their kid’s hair get this wild? haha!

I have taken too long of a break from my blog. We had quite the event-filled Christmas weekend!

I wanted to announce the recipients of the wedding giveaway on Christmas Eve, but the time to do so eluded me. But I am here to make the announcement now.

Ashley and Chad have been together for almost 5 years. Through what seems to be a million trials and tribulations they have stood by each others side to come out victorious in love. What impressed me the most about their story was that they have found a way to work through all that life has thrown at them. They have worked for positive solutions to all of life’s sticky situation. I am inspired by that. And I am drawn to that kind of love.

Ashley and Chad will marry on 10-10-10 of this year. It is day that we will all be looking forward to for months now. And it is a day that will not easily be forgotten in the future. Can you imagine forgetting your anniversary when it is as easy as 10-10-10?

So thanks to everyone who submitted a story. I wish to you all the happiness and love imaginable in your future.

And to everyone reading this I want to wish to you a happy happy happy early new year! Oh and my little guy wants to wish you a happy New Year too!

He is all mine. I went into the living room this morning and he was just chillin’ on the couch with the headphones on… they were not plugged into anything. He is so funny sometimes. I grabbed my camera and we had a little lifestyle mini-shoot.

I <3 him.

It snowed! In my lifetime I can not remember such an awesome dusting in the East Bay Area. I have lived in snowy places before and I truly believe snow to be magical. For a short period of time, while the snow is still white, everything looks pristine  and magnificent. There are some deep spiritual truths for me in snow. But beyond all that deep stuff, it is just F-U-N! So much fun that I am planing yet a third trip to see it later today.

But for now I have taken a few pictures of what I saw today. For many of you non Bay Area blog readers these sights may be very common place for you. Something that you stare at for months on end. Hopefully you can feel my joy for the magical white powder in these pictures and be reminded of the true magic that it is. For those who are not inundated with it for months at a time I hope you can see the beauty that is just so natural and dare I say magical.
