He’s 3: personal project

Three year olds are tricky. They are like the yin and yang of children. One moment they are the sweetest children you have ever met. They are polite. They are sweetly kissing the forehead of their baby brother. Then just seconds later they are screaming, and yelling, and kicking, and biting, and smacking the head of their baby brother.

What can I say? I love this little man more than words can express. The days I want to pull my hair out definitely do not outnumber the days where I could just sit and stare in wonder at how awesome he is.

I thank God everyday for such amazing little men to share my world with. Today in particular I am thanking God for blessing me with Sawyer. He makes my heart and my face smile.

These are his official 3 year old pictures. There were some yin moments during the session and there were some yang moments. But my heart swells with pride over how adorable he is (and if Gap is reading this, he is available for a modeling contract, thankyouverymuch).

A boy and his pumpkin: personal project

We got the LAST pumpkin at Trader Joe’s today. Can you imagine our surprise and horror when I asked at the front desk if they were out of pumpkins and they told me that they were out. I was just sad. I mean I know we could go to another store but TJ’s is our go to pumpkin place and we had to get home for the Giants’ game. LOL!

Well, leave it to Max to find a way to get home for the first pitch. There was one pumpkin that was decorating the sample area in the back. So we asked, “is that pumpkin for sale?” They told us yes (YES!!!) and we got our pumpkin and arrived home to hear Kelly Clarkson singing her heart out to the National Anthem.

You can’t keep a boy from his pumpkin and you can’t keep a daddy from his game!

We started out cleaning our pumpkin out and deciding what kind of face our jack-o-lantern was going to have.

We decided on scary!

Daddy doing his part while watching the game. He really is such a great man!

LOVE! A boy and his pumpkin.

And finally Jack in all his glory.

Pumpkin day 2010: Personal Project

October 24th, 2010

The weather this year is WEIRD. Rain? Really? It is so unexpected. Every year we go to the pumpkin patch and we wear shorts. This year we got rained out. Most years the pictures are happy smiling children who are picking out their pumpkins. This we we have serious faces and a moody brood. And [...]

Most years the pictures are happy smiling children who are picking out their pumpkins. This we we have serious faces and a moody brood.

And yet I still wanted to share these pictures with you because they reflect who we are and what our day was like. :)

Here is our family picture from the day:

And finally a comparison picture of my little man Sawyer. On the left he is almost 2 and on the right he is almost 3 (he doesn’t seem too happy about that). haha

Happy Fall and Halloween to all you blog readers! Hope yours is happier than ours. LOL!

3 of one 1 of another: Personal Project

I got this amazingly beautiful blanket from a dear friend’s dear mother. I adore it. It is the perfect shade of baby blue. It is the perfect stitch too. In fact, she learned this stitch to make this blanket for Mr. Grady. I am honored to get to take pictures of it. What I love [...]

I got this amazingly beautiful blanket from a dear friend’s dear mother. I adore it. It is the perfect shade of baby blue. It is the perfect stitch too. In fact, she learned this stitch to make this blanket for Mr. Grady. I am honored to get to take pictures of it.

What I love the most about these is that you can see his beautiful blue eyes in these images. I very highly doubt they will stay blue, it is just not a strong enough part of his genetic pool to remain baby blues. For now they are blue and I love them.

And the final image is of the big brother. He is having a hard time adjusting this week. The newness has worn off and baby is here to stay. Our days are all different now and he just isn’t loving it. He still LOVES his baby brother, I think he just wishes we could send him back to the hospital from time to time, poor guy!

So thank you, thank you, thank you Karen for the awesome blanket. It is a blessing to us!!!

I finally had some time to do some more pictures. I bet you will see a huge change in him in these shots. He has plumped up quite a bit. When we went to the Pediatrician on Wednesday he had already by passed his birth weight by half a pound. They want to see babies back to their birth weight by then and he exceeded that by half a pound! I am a proud momma!

Every day we have a little more awake time than the day before and we love to see how he is changing daily. He really is quite the blessing and will actually just sit and let us hold him and be content. It is amazing to have such a happy baby! Every baby is a blessing so I don’t want to compare but having a mellow baby has been the biggest blessing we could have ever dreamed of!

Well without further ado here are the images I got today. The first one is my favorite I got! And be sure to check out the little before and after at the end of the post.

But I love this one too:

Here is a straight out of the camera (sooc) version of the next image. In this one you can see the outbreak of baby acne that is plaguing him right now. Then in the second shot you can see how I fixed it. I have some mad photoshop skilz, right?!?

What a Crock: Personal Project

August 31st, 2010

This pickling crock is a hand me down from my grandmother on my Mom’s side. She was an awesome lady and she pickled things too. Now I have never pickled anything but I had visions of squishing my newborn baby into this crock both to see if I could do it and to honor the legacy of my pickling Grandmother Elsie Southerland.

Grandma, I hope you are looking down from heaven smiling that your newest Great-Grandson can fit in the crock. I wish you were here to share this with us.

And now that I am crying (darn post-partum hormones) here are the pictures of my baby the pickle.

Notice the 6? Yeah it is some important marking on the crock but to me it is significant because Grady is both the 6th Grandchild on the Franks’ side of the family and he is the 6th member of our family.

For the first time he didn’t cooperate! He had some issues on my first set up and we had to discard (well wash) the blanket I had planned to use. So we had to change courses and went for the cocoon so we could use a diaper for this mini-session. He was wide awake the entire time. And while I love those sleepy images there is something completely intriguing about the eyes of a baby. You know, they say that babies can see angels. Well the weird thing is that all through church today his eyes were wide open and he was staring at the ceiling. Maybe there is something to that old wives tale!

Without further ado here is Baby Grady and just a couple of his big brother who decided he wanted some pictures taken too. And funny side story here I asked him if he wanted some pictures taken today and he immediately took his shirt off. I think I have ruined him for life. haha!

I had acquired some baby hats before he was born and saved them all up for today. He did great as I changed from hat to hat. If you love any of the hats and want one here is the link to the Etsy seller, click here.

I love this hat because you can’t look at this picture without giggling inside, right? Isn’t he adorable?

blog3

I have had this hat since Sawyer was a little guy. I have never used it on a newborn yet, so excited to get to try it out!

blog7

And just a shot of his crazy post bath hair. I love it!

Finally, a pullback shot of how I set up these shots. Nothing too special but I think it is nice to see behind the scenes images every once in a while.

another day, another picture: personal project

August 27th, 2010

I have taken formal pictures of Grady just about every day since birth (I missed day one and yesterday though). Here is a quick storyboard of the little guy that is a combination of pictures that Max and I took of him. We love him (but we love all our boys too!)
