Just a little glimpse into my world today. My office (“where all the magic happens”) is also my son’s play area. Very convenient simply for the fact that he can hang and play and we can chat while I am working. And really I can just kind of keep an eye on the happenings of his day. Oh, plus I can take breaks to play legos or play-doh every once in a while.

Well today, while doing some stuff on the computer I neglected him for a few minutes (shame, shame, right?!?) and turned around to see this:

Tear… we cut my baby’s hair today. And he looks like such a big boy now. I never cease to amaze at him, he did incredibly well and looks like a different kid now. I can’t get over it. My sister is the hairdresser in the family and she kindly came over on her way home from work today to cut his hair for us. Thanks “antie necie” for being so patient and awesome with hi, he looks great.

Please excuse me as I share some of the images from today. They are not perfect (it was so dark I had to use my flash and some indoor light too) but they are sweet memories for us.

A before image, who lets their kid’s hair get this wild? haha!

I have taken too long of a break from my blog. We had quite the event-filled Christmas weekend!

I wanted to announce the recipients of the wedding giveaway on Christmas Eve, but the time to do so eluded me. But I am here to make the announcement now.

Ashley and Chad have been together for almost 5 years. Through what seems to be a million trials and tribulations they have stood by each others side to come out victorious in love. What impressed me the most about their story was that they have found a way to work through all that life has thrown at them. They have worked for positive solutions to all of life’s sticky situation. I am inspired by that. And I am drawn to that kind of love.

Ashley and Chad will marry on 10-10-10 of this year. It is day that we will all be looking forward to for months now. And it is a day that will not easily be forgotten in the future. Can you imagine forgetting your anniversary when it is as easy as 10-10-10?

So thanks to everyone who submitted a story. I wish to you all the happiness and love imaginable in your future.

And to everyone reading this I want to wish to you a happy happy happy early new year! Oh and my little guy wants to wish you a happy New Year too!

It snowed! In my lifetime I can not remember such an awesome dusting in the East Bay Area. I have lived in snowy places before and I truly believe snow to be magical. For a short period of time, while the snow is still white, everything looks pristine  and magnificent. There are some deep spiritual truths for me in snow. But beyond all that deep stuff, it is just F-U-N! So much fun that I am planing yet a third trip to see it later today.

But for now I have taken a few pictures of what I saw today. For many of you non Bay Area blog readers these sights may be very common place for you. Something that you stare at for months on end. Hopefully you can feel my joy for the magical white powder in these pictures and be reminded of the true magic that it is. For those who are not inundated with it for months at a time I hope you can see the beauty that is just so natural and dare I say magical.

The Biggest Announcement: Bay Area Wedding Photographer

November 30th, 2009

I love this time of the year. I am inspired more than ever to see the potential in people and the good in humanity. I am drawn into happy endings and love beyond imagination. And I am compelled to be more giving than feels comfortable. I do not say this to toot my own horn in any way. Trust me I can be as un-grace-filled as Scrooge at times, but I have the desire to be giving and loving and grace-filled. So I sat down and started to dream about what I could do to “give back” for the amazing gift that this past year has been for me. And that was when I hatched this plan.

I am going to give away a day of wedding photography to a deserving couple. You might ask, “what do you mean by deserving”? And my answer is that the couple who receive this will have an incredible story. They will be the kind of people who radiate love and hope and peace and joy even though if you looked at their journey you would expect everything but. I don’t want to be too much more specific than that because I want this to be open to lots of different stories.

So here is what the day will include. Up to 8 hours of wedding coverage by myself and my assistant/second shooter (my wonderful husband!), DVD of the high resolution images from the wedding, and a $500 album credit after the wedding is completed. I will also throw in an engagement session to happen in January 2010! (this is over $4000 in wedding coverage)

And here are the specifics. Your entry will be your story. Please email your story to me at kristy@kristylynnphotography.com no later than December 10, 2009. From there a winning couple will be chosen on Christmas Eve and announced on this blog. When you email your story please be as descriptive of who the two of your are as possible. Include how you met, how you fell in love, what obstacle you have overcome, how this love and journey has changed the two of you. Optimally both of you will contribute to the story you write in your own special way. I would love to be able to really get a feel for the two of you in your story.

Beyond that, you must have already chosen a wedding date in 2010 and it cannot occur on a date that I already have booked for 2010 (I will email as soon as I receive your story if there is a scheduling conflict). Previously contracted wedding couples by Kristy Lynn Photography or any other photographer are not allowed to send their story. You will be required to sign a contract with Kristy Lynn Photography if you are the winning couple and the gift will not be transferable and has no monetary value. Please take the utmost care to be completely honest in your story. And one final thing, the wedding must take place in the greater San Francisco Bay area. Weddings outside of this area will incur a travel fee.

Thanks for reading this and I can’t wait to read your stories! Seriously!!!

And since every post is just beyond better with a picture here is another image from my recent engagement session in downtown St. Helena with Sam and Brent one of my 2010 wedding couples. I love them, I really do.

So the holidays are upon us almost. And my holiday cut-off is just right around the corner. I have had some scheduling changes so I have one opening left for this weekend. So if you have been on the fence about scheduling your holiday session, here is your last chance. Email me if you want to snap this spot up!

And my second announcement is that I am in the very beginning stages of putting together a “learn to take better pictures of your kids” workshop. We are going to discuss finding the light, setting the scene, and the techniques that ensure your kid will look as awesome as possible. So, if you have been thinking that you wanted to get a little better at capturing your families everyday memories you might want to think about attending this workshop in a few months. I will post the details in a few weeks as they finalize. Email me if you are interested and I can put you on the interest list, kristy@kristylynnphotography.com.

And my final announcement today is that it is my anniversary. I have been blissfully married to the love my life for 3 years now. I know it is a blink of the eye when it comes to the lifetime we have together in the future but it is a fun milestone none the less. So I include this picture (that I did not take, my fabulous wedding photographer, Sara Remington took) as a tribute to the man who has my heart. Not only has he loved me more than I ever thought possible but he has supported me in my dream to become a photographer. He is awesome.

wedding for blogThis happened right after we finished the ceremony. We just hugged, spontaneously, and so reflective of the fact that even though we are definitely madly in love we are also best friends.

Family Pictures – FAIL! Livermore Family Photographer

I don’t think photographers are SUPPOSED to tell you when they fail. But in this instance it is too funny not to share.

I took my kids to the pumpkin farm a few weeks back to get some pictures for our Christmas cards. I picked out outfits that coordinated but were not too matchy-matchy so that they looked cute but not “too put together.” I found a good spot with pumpkins and great light. And then I sat down in front of them and attempted to get them to all look at me.

I failed.

You think you are the only one who has a hard time getting your kids to take good pictures for you. No, us photographers have the same issues. I don’t know maybe this blog entry will make me relate-able, haha. Maybe you are the type that loves the perfectly imperfect family photo (and if you do I am your girl! LOL!). Or maybe this posting will just help you to realize that it is hard work to get your kids to look good in photos.

Stay tuned, I will be attempting round two at the pumpkin patch this weekend. Hopefully in the same cute outfits, but hopefully this time they will all look at me at the same time.

The BFF wedding: Northern California Wedding Photographer

I have known Abby since we were in 5th grade. She has known me since we were in 7th. It is a long story. HAHA. She has been one of the greatest friends of my lifetime. Knowing someone for 20 years is a long time. I didn’t get a chance to give a speech at your wedding because I was busy taking pictures of the speeches. But lets call the next paragraph the speech I would have given if I had chosen to be a bridesmaid instead of the photographer. Plus I don’t think I could have gotten through this without balling like a little baby anyways.

It had been said a few times during the day that people were uncertain that this day would ever come, but I had no doubts. I knew that there would be a day when one of the most incredible people I have ever known would choose to join lives and hearts with the love of her life. I knew that someday your heart open itself to the love that it longed for. I also knew that it would have to be one impossibly incredible man, and that is who you found. Now one might ask, “how exactly did you know that for certain Kristy?” And my answer would be simply, “I know Abby!”

I know that she has impossibly high standards both for herself and for the people that she loves. But the grace that she possesses balances it out perfectly. I know that she loves deeper than the ocean and that this love is a gift from God. I know that she has a calling that is stronger than crazy glue and the perfect amount of faith that keeps her right in the palm of the hand of the Father. I know that she speaks truth. I know that she lives truth. And I know that she believes truth. I know that the first time I saw Will and her together I saw her more crazy in love than I could have imagined. And I know that will is the ying to her yang. He is the blue to her red in purple. And he is her happy ending.

It is always a beautiful thing when two become one. But this wedding was an extra special one for me. We had prayed for this day since we were kids. Abby I am so proud of you for keeping your eye on the prize. Thank you both for letting me be a part of your special, incredible day. I can only hope that the images I captured can display even half of the awesomeness that was your day.

Have fun in Mexico. I will see you guys when you get back.

I bet all you out there in the blogersphere are wondering if I shoot all of these wedding solo? I know that this question has been burning in your minds for weeks now. And I know that each one of you has been planing a well written email to ask me if I have assistants or if I go it alone. Well my dear internet-friends, I do indeed have assistants, specifically two of the coolest assistants around (I am married to one of them, haha). Shannon and Max.

This is Shannon. Notice she is getting a very sweet shot of the bride and groom after they passed me during the recession. Shannon is always there to work it when my moment has passed. Rock on Shannon!

shannon

And this is Max. Notice he is quietly shooting to the side of where I was, telephoto lens on, looking for angles that I don’t see. That’s my hunny!!

max

Now I don’t want anyone who might shoot with me in the future or who has shot with me in the past to feel bad. I don’t play favoritism too much, but these two have been with me from the beginning (I know, so long, right?) and they inspire me, they hold me up when I get tired, they calm me down when things go crazy, and they park the car for me and carry my bags when I need them too. And for all of this they RAWK!

So Shan-shan and Maximus, thank you buds! I can’t wait to work with you both again. eeeeeeeeee!
