And I want to take your picture. But not just any picture, I want to take that picture of you that makes you say, "awwwwww!" the first time you see it. I want to take the picture that makes you think, "man, I am beautiful!" And I want to take that picture that captures your memories.

So I have this awesome location in mind. I have actually been dreaming about doing this session for about a year now. It is the coolest location I can think of. A little bit crazy, a whole lot of fun, and quite a bit of an “adventure.”
So who is up for it? I have room for one couple to do this session with me. In exchange for the secret location (a girl has gotta have a few secrets) and the photographer (me) having a lot more of the creative control of the session you will get the session for a reduced fee and you will be pleasantly surprised by some of the products you will receive from the session. And beyond that I can guarantee that you will have a session unlike anyone that I have seen (okay just kidding really, because I just googled my idea and while I am not the first one to think of it I still think I will make it pretty RAD!)
So email me, the first engaged couple (to be married in the soon to be future – and like the date is picked and you have a ring type of this) to email gets this awesome session at a pretty awesome discount and well, what can beat that!!!!
I announced a few weeks ago that I was going to be doing a Mother’s Day contest. I was excited to see all five entries that I got! There are some pretty awesome moms out there! I know my mom rocks but since she really can’t win my contest I have to give kudos to all the other awesome mom’s out there!
So here are the “rules”: Vote for your favorite mom (there is a picture and a one-liner that describes why that mom is so awesome!), tell your friends to come to the kristy lynn photography blog and vote for their favorite mom, post this blog entry on your facebook to remind your friends to come and vote, send an email to everyone without a facebook to tell them about it. Remember that each person only gets one vote. I can track IP addresses and can tell if there is any funny business going on. Plus, since this is all in fun, it is not cool to cheat! The fine print: anyone caught cheating will be disqualified immediately. You don’t want to take that chance!
With the rule stuff out of the way, here are the moms!
1. Nancy’s mom!
Nancy’s one-liner: My Mom, who has always given selflessly to her family, ROCKS because she his a constant force of unconditional and supportive love in the lives of me, my sister, my husband, and my two young daughters.
And the picture:
2. Jaime’s mom!
Jaime’s one-liner: My Mom rocks because my kids think she’s the Greatest Grandma ever!
and the picture:
3. Jordan and Jacob’s mom!
Jordan and Jacob’s one-liner: Our mother laughs with us- and just as hard!
and the picture:
4. Krista’s mom-in-law!
Krista’s one-liner: My mother-in-law and I spent five days straight in a car together; her, me, and my two boys…..we laughed, we talked, we sang……she is loyal, caring, and doesn’t give advice unless you want it, she is the greatest mother-in-law I can imagine, and I consider her my other mommy.
and the picture:
5. Cristine’s mom!
Cristine’s one-liner: My mom rocks because she is always there when we need her, with time and love and fresh batch of cookies!
and the picture:
It is going to be so hard to choose. All of these moms are awesome and I am proud to have each one as part of the contest!
So share away and vote and go and hug your mom, it’s the right thing to do.
Our Mother’s Day contest voting will start tomorrow! I am so excited. We have some awesome submissions from some really great women, but there is room for more!!!
Think about your mom. Would she love it if you could win a free photo shoot and 11×14 wall portrait for her this Mother’s Day? Would she think that you were pretty much the best-est kid ever if you told the world why she rocked? Would she think that this was a way better gift than a bunch of tulips (and btw, I love tulips)?
I think we all know that the answer to the three above questions is…. YES!!!
So get on it, find a picture of your mom and send it on in with one line that describes why your mom is the best-est mom in the world! Can’t wait to hear from you!
Exciting news! While other parts of the country are still buried under feet of snow and ice, it is a nice and sunny 70degrees here today. And so in honor of our lovely weather we are having a…
Excludes weddings, commercial photography, and any session that would be considered out of the ordinary. Email me at kristy@kristylynnphotography for more information.
I love this time of the year. I am inspired more than ever to see the potential in people and the good in humanity. I am drawn into happy endings and love beyond imagination. And I am compelled to be more giving than feels comfortable. I do not say this to toot my own horn in any way. Trust me I can be as un-grace-filled as Scrooge at times, but I have the desire to be giving and loving and grace-filled. So I sat down and started to dream about what I could do to “give back” for the amazing gift that this past year has been for me. And that was when I hatched this plan.
I am going to give away a day of wedding photography to a deserving couple. You might ask, “what do you mean by deserving”? And my answer is that the couple who receive this will have an incredible story. They will be the kind of people who radiate love and hope and peace and joy even though if you looked at their journey you would expect everything but. I don’t want to be too much more specific than that because I want this to be open to lots of different stories.
So here is what the day will include. Up to 8 hours of wedding coverage by myself and my assistant/second shooter (my wonderful husband!), DVD of the high resolution images from the wedding, and a $500 album credit after the wedding is completed. I will also throw in an engagement session to happen in January 2010! (this is over $4000 in wedding coverage)
And here are the specifics. Your entry will be your story. Please email your story to me at kristy@kristylynnphotography.com no later than December 10, 2009. From there a winning couple will be chosen on Christmas Eve and announced on this blog. When you email your story please be as descriptive of who the two of your are as possible. Include how you met, how you fell in love, what obstacle you have overcome, how this love and journey has changed the two of you. Optimally both of you will contribute to the story you write in your own special way. I would love to be able to really get a feel for the two of you in your story.
Beyond that, you must have already chosen a wedding date in 2010 and it cannot occur on a date that I already have booked for 2010 (I will email as soon as I receive your story if there is a scheduling conflict). Previously contracted wedding couples by Kristy Lynn Photography or any other photographer are not allowed to send their story. You will be required to sign a contract with Kristy Lynn Photography if you are the winning couple and the gift will not be transferable and has no monetary value. Please take the utmost care to be completely honest in your story. And one final thing, the wedding must take place in the greater San Francisco Bay area. Weddings outside of this area will incur a travel fee.
Thanks for reading this and I can’t wait to read your stories! Seriously!!!
And since every post is just beyond better with a picture here is another image from my recent engagement session in downtown St. Helena with Sam and Brent one of my 2010 wedding couples. I love them, I really do.
I loved the movie Julie and Julia, not so much that I want to work my way through Julia Child’s Mastering the Art of French Cooking, but enough that I was inspired to cook some more gourmet types of meals. What does this have to do with photography you might immediately think. Well hold on and you shall see!
So I asked my boys what they would like for dinner tonight and they replied, “chicken cordon bleu,” and “meatloaf.” So I decided that I would make chicken cordon bleu meatloaf. haha. This is a new to me thing. I looked it up, never saw a recipe for it and decided to do it on my own.
I started with ground chicken thighs added some fresh rosemary and thyme, a single egg some ground up cornflakes and some salt and pepper. I made a larger rectangle out of the mix and rolled up with some shredded swiss cheese and ham (see pictures below).
All the while I was also making Giada’s Asparagus Risotto. It was glorious. I have never made risotto before. Yummy.
So here is how it all relates to photography. The nerdy photographer in me decided to photo-document the process. I told you I am a little nerdy when it comes to this stuff.
So here you are. My semi-gourmet dinner in pictures. Hope you enjoy. And I hope that it inspires you to create some wonderfulness for those you love. And take pictures. You are creating memories in making dinners like this!
Here are all the ingredients (minus the champagne that was still chilling)
Here are the blanched asparagus spears. I have never blanched before. fun.
Risotto pre-rice. I chop onions well. Plus EVERYTHING is better with butter.
It is getting to be that time of the year. I just saw Halloween stuff at Target yesterday. Unbelievable! And the Spirit Halloween stores are starting to pop up everywhere. Pretty soon the holiday Turkey shows will start on the Food Network. And Ole St. Nick will be the central figure at the shopping mall again. I know that seems insane when it is like 90 degrees outside but it comes faster than we can imagine. Every year I look at my husband Mid-November and wonder where the year went.
Custom holiday cards are a great way to send seasons greetings. Pictures of your family are a great holiday gift. I encourage you to start thinking about booking your holiday sessions now, before the schedule gets filled up. October session are limited because of a busy 4 wedding month for me. Holiday orders are due before November 10, 2009 to ensure an early December arrival of cards and prints. Canvas and albums take longer so keep that in mind as you are planning as well.
And for those who are looking to schedule a mini-session this might be the perfect thing for you:
So contact me soon to schedule your holiday sessions. I can’t wait to hear from you!
Most people do a bunch of cleaning and reorganizing in the spring, “the spring clean!” Well I guess I am a little behind on the times because I am going to do a late summer/early fall reorganization, haha. So things are going to change a little around here.
I am going to be revamping my collections, adding some new products, and making things all around a little bit more awesome!
But in the meantime if you would like to lock in my current pricing just the way that it is make sure to email me in the next couple of weeks. My current pricing will be valid until August 15, 2009.
And as always, these posts are way better with a picture, so here is a pretty picture…
When you live in one of the most undisputedly beautiful cities in the world (possibly even THE most beautiful) you often find that the central landmarks can become humdrum. The places that the rest of the world recognize as, “that IS San Francisco,” can become common place. And these locations are often thought of as Engagement session “clichés.” But yesterday, I got the awesome opportunity to go to two of these very places with Alexa and Kenny for their engagement session and I have got to say, it was anything but “cliché!”
We started our day at the Palace of Fine Arts. Recently renovated the scaffolding has been removed to reveal a gorgeous structure and an architectural masterpiece. The arches are grand, the grounds are gorgeous, and the light is phenomenal. But the real things that shined while we were there were Kenny and Alexa. There were about 12 (not kidding) other photographers roaming around the grounds looking for the perfect spot to get their shot. But in the midst of all of that, Kenny and Alexa effortlessly radiated love.
Alexa is a firecracker. Choosing San Diego for a new start after graduation. She closed her eyes and pointed to a spot on the map, her finger ended up on Bakersfield, but she thought better and went a little further southwest. Kenny was freshly finished with his time in the military and the two met. The fell in love, and five years later, we found ourselves talking about their wedding plans on Cape Cod (SO wish I was that wedding photographer!). And even talking a bit about what it will be like when the start a family.
We moved to Baker Beach. Again, often thought of where “everyone” does their engagement session. Heck, even my husband and I did ours there three years ago. But I have to say, with Alexa and Kenny, it felt fresh and new.
Alexa and Kenny, best of luck and tons of happiness as you begin your marriage. I am excited to hear about how it goes and see the pictures from it. And with our further ado, here is your sneak peek from yesterday!
So I got a new prop, well, a new floor, ok to best describe it, it is a prop floor. Wood prop floor to be exact. And I love it. We have tile in the downstairs of our house and it is awesome for many reasons but hardwood floors are glorious in photographs. So I have to fake it. And just in case your home doesn’t have the perfect floors, I will be bringing my new fake floor to your house for our session as well, just in case. And at the very least we can mix it up too, use your floor sometimes, use my fake floor sometimes. Keep ‘em guessing.
So this thing had been on back order for 2.5 months. Talk about patience, I kept checking the site ever week and a half or so to see if it had shipped and finally when I had almost given up the UPS man dropped of a long skinny box, inside was my rolled up fake floor. I was ecstatic! I changed my little guy’s clothes and moved some furniture and rolled the glorious fake floor out and snapped a few shots of him and then I realized that he had turned 19 months the day before. YAY for 19 month pictures. lol!
